Spanish women beat New Zealand in Basketball preliminary

(BEIJING, August 11) -- The Spanish Women's Basketball team beat New Zealand 85-62 in a group B match in the preliminary round of the Olympic Women's Basketball tournament on Monday, August 11.

New Zealand's Jillian Harmon was the game's high scorer, netting 22 points, grabbing five rebounds and giving three assists.

Spain's Isabel Sanchez was the biggest contributor to her team with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists. Her teammate Anna Montanana scored 18 points and took seven rebounds.

Spain set the pace from the beginning, closing the first quarter 18-7. In a span of five minutes and a half, New Zealand failed to score while Spain gained 10 points. New Zealand did a better job at the beginning of the second quarter and cut the gap to six points midway through, but Spain wouldn't let it go further and extended the gap to 13 points at the end.

The third quarter saw both teams scoring 20 points. The New Zealand team played hard and kept the gap from further widening; however, Spain grabbed a big lead again in the fourth quarter, gaining 25 points while New Zealand only took 15, ending the match 85-62.
